Hi there lovely! A few weeks ago I was reading a beautifully written blog post by smarterandharderblog.com and stumbled across an inspiring quote that I had surprisingly never heard before. The quote really resonated with me and I wanted to share it with you today in this little inspiring blog post.
The Inspiring Quote
It’s a very simple quote, and I was honestly surprised that I’d never heard it before. Especially with all my hours spent on Pinterest pinning motivational quotes and stories. But, simple as it may be, I was really struck by it.
Why I Find it Inspiring
It is so easy to be swept up in the routine of our daily lives. It’s almost like we run on autopilot half the time, not truly living in the moment and soaking up every second of life. People, including me, get so wrapped up in the end goal.
We get so caught up in seeing the finish line, that we forget to look at the scenery around us along the way. It really is true that the journey to the finish line is just as important (if not more) as the actual finish line.
I loved how the quote was applied to a mountain, because sometimes our journey really is like hiking up a mountain. Often we have to fight, climb, and scratch are way up. The journey can be hard. And if we only focus on the summit, the moment we reach the top, we almost discredit how hard we worked to get there.
Not only that, but we learn so so much on the climb up. Those are the moments where we grow and learn ad become the person we are. Those are the experiences and lessons that shape us and they are incredibly important.
We often talk about how people only share their “highlight reel” on social media. The summit is the highlight reel, but the summit is the smallest part of the mountain and, like the quote says, there is so much more to the mountain.
After all my rambling, what is the point? What is the lesson to take away? Well, here is what I learned. Our lives are full of mountains. There are ups and there are downs. But, if you only focus the summits you loose so much valuable time in your life. You loose the moments that really shape you.
We have to appreciate all the moments of our lives, whether we’re at the highest point or the lowest point. The summit or the valley–it is all a part of who we are. And that is certainly not to say we can’t celebrate the summits because we can and we should.
I’m a firm believer that life in it’s entirety should be celebrated, because there are so many beautiful moments each and every day.
Thanks so much for reading my little rambling today. I wanted to share something I found so encouraging and positive because there isn’t a whole lot of it right now.
